Fitness -a family affair

As anyone can imagine fitness and nutrition are not always a priority with young kids and a busy lifestyle.  I work full time and when I am not I love to always be going somewhere especially during the summer, but having two kids means I end up spending most my day in the kitchen.  Up until now with Matthew being an infant eating right or really eating at all for me was a little rough.  By the time I prepared both kids a separate meal I didn't really feel like making something for myself.  Now that Matthew is eating more table foods and I am making a conscious effort to find foods we can all eat I can focus more on how much and what I am eating.  Two of my most recent examples are caprese pasta salad and cheesy broccoli couscous.

Caprese pasta salad

Noodles
Basil
Mini tomatoes
Fresh mozzarella balls

For this I make a large helping of pasta to last a couple meals and I store it separately.  Then I mix the basil, tomatoes, and mozzarella in one bowl.  I eat everything all together, kaylee eats the noodles with tomatoes, and Matt loves pasta cut up really small.  Boom!  Now we have all eaten and I only prepared one meal, and I get a healthy meal too.

Cheesy broccoli couscous

Cheese
Fresh broccoli
Couscous/pasta/risotto

All three of us are a big fan of this one :)

Other good ideas for my family is making a huge fruit salad and pairing that with cottage cheese and eggs.  Both Matthew and kaylee are in love with scrambled eggs.  Easy enough.

** Notice the acorn in the picture.  After making my food Kaylee proceeded to tell me that she placed all of her rollie pollies inside the acorn so that they could all go to sleep.  I guess I may have eaten some bugs but at least its protein HA!

Along with eating healthier as a family Kaylee, Steve, and I all did an ab routine in our 90 degree bedroom.  The ab workout that I have been following has been this which I acquired from pinterest

Learning how to post photos

Holy hamstrings

Luckily uneventful with the kiddos.  Both in kids club safe and sound.  Which means 2 full hours of legs.

85lbs - 10 reps
105- 5 reps

I <3 circuit weight training

Circuit #1 (4 sets)

Dead lifts - 60lbs 10 reps
Leg lifts - sandbag 10 reps
Single legged lunge- 10 reps per leg

Circuit #2 (4 sets)

Good mornings- 40 lbs 10 reps
Leg press- 85 lbs 10 reps
Calf raises - 85 lbs 10 reps

I then added in some sets with the stability ball.  Once I figure out how to upload Pinterest pictures I will do so.  I have so far taken many ideas off of Pinterest.

But holy moly my quads, glutes, and hamstrings were on fire for several days after.  Best leg workout  I have ever done.  Definitely not easy to carry babies around with sore legs.

Goal for me is to continue to have workouts like these.

Current weight- 112
Goal weight- 125

"Wow I really regret that workout" - said no one ever

My very first blog! (Never would have thought I would have a blog)

I have always been good at setting goals in my life and right now I have decided it is time for a new one.  In college I told myself that after having kids I wanted to enter into fitness/figure competitions.  I have chosen my first one to be Kevin Nobles NPC Natural Mid States Muscle Classic on November 16, 2013 http://kevinnoble.com/index.html.
My first step was joining a gym.  I chose the nearby park district with an amazing kids club.  I
Have been going for two weeks and am finding it extremely difficult in finding any kind of routine
With both kids.  Kaylee whining that she doesn't want to go to kids club and having to make an
appointment for Matthew (the infant) to be in the kids club each time I want to workout.
Most days we have been late which means less workout time for me.  I foresee that there will be many
Barriers to my goals but by blogging my journey I hope to hold myself accountable.

But, thus far I have been working out consistently, eating cleaner, chosen a competition, and now have
Now created my blog.
